在台灣,吳敏蘭的書單與廖彩杏、汪培珽的同樣知名。吳敏蘭生長在外交官家庭,畢業於哈佛大學,是兩個孩子的母親。小時候跟著外交官父親遊走各國,受過6個國家不同文化的洗禮,學過7種語言,在泰國住了三年、韓國六年,回到台灣念國中,又到瑞典念高中,然後回台灣念大學,之後到美國哈佛大學念跨文化雙語教育碩士。

句型重複性高的繪本-字少  圖畫清楚  句型的重複性要高

最常見的例子就是連三歲孩子都可以「背誦」的Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? (Bill Martin Jr. & Eric Carle),故事中不斷重複

“Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?” “I see a red bird looking at me.”

“Red Bird, Red Bird, What do you see?” “I see a yellow duck looking at me.”

孩子很容易就記住,甚至套用成 “Mommy, Mommy, what do you see?”來玩遊戲。學齡前的孩子而言,這種重複性高、甚至可吟唱的繪本,是讓孩子開口說英文的好方法。

可增強phonemic awareness的書-讓孩子由閱讀進入英語的學習

閱讀能力是要慢慢培養的,孩子若要獨立閱讀也需要建立自然發音(phonics)的能力,不過,讓孩子透過繪本去接觸英文,沒有壓力、充滿趣味,又可建立孩子的信心。甚至有些繪本中的韻文(rhyming words),可以訓練孩子建立自然發音的概念(phonemic awareness),有助於孩子自然發音的學習。

給大朋友的英文繪本書單-與孩子一起學英文

我常常鼓勵幼稚園的家長們,不要擔心自己英文不好,和孩子一起閱讀,不但自己可以慢慢累積英文能力,又可以培養親子關係。我們學校有好多家長到後來自己成為愛故事的人(story lover),會去收集繪本,收藏各種版本的故事與孩子分享。如果爸爸媽媽是個愛繪本的大朋友,現在坊間也有很多是大人才更能體會其中的幽默繪本,作者打破傳統故事的架構直接與讀者對話,或是故事內容顛覆傳統的價值觀,往往會讓愛故事的大朋友拍案叫絕呢!
